Asteroid Maker
Asteroid Maker combines two plugins for Cinema 4D: an object generator for the rock shape and a shader for the surface detail. A separate node tree is provided for use in Redshift.
These plugins let you design an asteroid to any desired shape and texture it realistically. Both shaders are fully procedural and do not use any bitmaps. There are several options in both to achieve the asteroid you need.
Below are some sample renders. Click the small image to see a larger version. (The star field background is generated using the StarScape shader available on this site.) All renders use the standard C4D renderer except the last one, which uses Redshift.
- Basic sphere asteroid
A basic asteroid using the shader only on a Sphere primitive object.
- Coloured asteroid
A simple Sphere asteroid using a colour gradient rather than the default grayscale gradient.
- Corroded asteroid
An asteroid with a 'corroded' surface.
- Space rock
A space rock using the asteroid generator and shader together.
- Spiky asteroid
A hard, spiky asteroid.
- Asteroid using Redshift
A basic Sphere asteroid rendered in Redshift using the Redshift node tree rather than the shader plugin.
The Asteroid Maker object's user interface looks like this:
